Rhode Island Advanced Course Network Spring Registration

Registration for Spring 2017 Courses in the Advanced Coursework Network is now open. We are excited to announce we have moved to an online system at ride.gosignmeup.com. Students who visit www.ride.ri.gov/advancedcoursework will be directed to this site when they choose the Spring 2017 registration tab. Both sites include a short video for students to review to get acquainted with the registration process should they need help.

This system will:

Allow for a central hub of information for students and school administrators looking for status updates on their enrollments

Allow school contacts to pull real time reports of student enrollment

Allow for multiple contacts at a school or district to edit or view student enrollment

Allow for clear communication of course changes or next steps from Providers to students enrolled in their courses.

College Coffee Hours Presentations

Presentations from previous college coffee hours are attached.  Please contact the Guidance office if you have any questions.  Thank you.

Grading Procedure Change

Dear Parent(s) or Guardian(s):

North Smithfield High School (NSHS) has changed its credit procedure beginning in the 2016-2017 school year.  All NSHS students will earn .5 credit for each semester, instead of earning 1.0 credit only at the end of the year.  An example is below.

Current English 9 (Semester One)
Q1-40% of Grade, Q2-40% of Grade, Semester One Exam-20% of Grade

Current English 9 (Semester Two)
Q3-40% of Grade, Q4-40% of Grade, Semester Two Exam-20% of Grade

Past English 9 (Year)
Each Quarter-20% of Grade, Semester One Exam-10% of Grade, Semester Two Exam-10% of Grade

The hope is that this will hold students more accountable, while also giving students the opportunity for a fresh start at the beginning of each semester.   This should also give us the ability to generate transcripts more often and more quickly.  Please contact Mr. Pepin in the Guidance office at (401) 766-2503 if you have any questions or concerns about this change in grading/credit procedure.

2016 NSHS Financial Aid Night

Dear Parent(s) or Guardian(s) of seniors:

Financial Aid Night has been scheduled for Thursday, October 20, 2016 at 7:00 PM in the North Smithfield High School Library.

This workshop is sponsored by the Guidance Department and the Rhode Island Association of Financial Aid Officers.  Mr. Michael Joyce, Director of Program Administration, Division of Higher Education Assistance, Office of the Postsecondary Commissioner, will offer a two-part program on financial aid for both seniors and their parent(s) or guardian(s).  The first section of the program will provide a general overview of the current status of financial aid.  The remainder of the program will be a step-by-step explanation of completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE that is required by some schools.

If your child is planning to enter a university, college, community college, or a post-secondary trade or technical school after their senior year, you are encouraged to attend this program.

****Thank you to all who attended last night.  Documents from the presentation attached for you.*****
